The Role

To efficiently help meet production on Scott Coatings projects to ensure that they are successful. To demonstrate professionalism in every aspect of your day-to-day activities by being organized and efficiently executed in a manner that conveys and inherently results in success. This is an advanced painting position. This person has advanced knowledge of all paint products and applications. This person carries out tasks both interior and exterior, as assigned by the Foreman or Lead Painter. This person communicates clearly with their direct supervisor, as well as, Foreman or Lead Painter. The role and specifics listed below are essential for an Apprentice painter, consideration will be taken based on experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Journeyman’s day to day tasks can include everything involved with ensuring a project will be completed successfully. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensures site is prepped and ready for painting as instructed by the Foreman or Lead Painter
  • Prepares surfaces for paint application
  • Applies paint and specialty materials as directed by Foreman or Lead Painter
  • Proficient in application of paint using airless sprayer
  • Proficient in using power washing equipment
  • Completes tasks as assigned by Foreman or Lead Painter
  • Responsible for following all Scott Coatings rules and regulations per the handbook and APP
  • Responsible for presenting themselves in a neat, clean, and professional manner.
  • Responsible for attending weekly Toolbox Safety Meetings
  • Helps in monitoring painting skills to new apprentices or helpers to advance their skill set
  • Responsible for reporting any and all violations of Scott Coatings policies, safety or otherwise, to their Foreman or Lead Painter immediately
  • Ensures that all Scott Coatings’ Customers receive a professional, quality painting experience

Qualifications

A Journeyman Painter at Scott Coatings is required to always present a clean, organized and professional manner in the field as well as with the customer at all times.

  • Must have 3+ years practical experience
  • Advanced knowledge of all paint products and their applications
  • Experience in staining with all products on various types of surfaces
  • Knowledge of a wide range of materials from basic latex to two-part epoxy
  • Able to apply all paint products with the correct technique
  • Able to prep any surface for application
  • Can work with minimal to no supervision
  • Understands wet and dry mil gauge
  • Understands the functionality of a basic airless sprayer and specialty pumps such as HVLP and conventional set ups.
  • Experience in using specialty pumps like HVLP and conventional set ups
  • Advanced knowledge of lift operation, possess all safety cards and lift operator card
  • Proficient brush, roll, cutting, and laying off techniques
  • Able to follow directions thoroughly and accurately
  • Knowledge of proper safety guidelines in relation to the task
  • Understands how to read SDS and product data sheets
  • Able to lift 20-50lbs and occasionally 100lbs

Other Skills/Abilities:

  • Be a team player and communicate with supervisors, painters and laborers
  • Be able to communicate and work with people in all situations
  • Be an example of an advanced/quality painter
  • Ability to help keep others on task
  • Can read blueprints with supervision
